Coming from its display at the United Nations in New York City to our own Dadian Gallery at Wesley DC, Drawing Hope is a trans-local peace project that delivers messages of hope through children’s artwork. Beginning as an art exchange between children in South and North Korea, this project has expanded globally through collaborations with grassroots and civil society organizations, inviting children across the world to create self-portraits and messages for future friends across borders. This exhibition centers children and youth from nine countries as agents of change and affirms the importance of intergenerational engagement in drawing out hopes for a peaceful world for all.
Of this exhibition, Luce Center Director Rev. Timothy Chon writes:
“Our Center is deeply excited and grateful for the children and dedicated peacemakers bringing Drawing Hope from New York to Washington, D.C. This special exhibition offers a faithful response to an important question: How should peacebuilders remember and commemorate the 80th anniversary of the division of the Korean Peninsula? Through calling, teaching, creating, and exhibiting the artwork of third-generation children, Drawing Hope opens a space for us to envision God’s Kin-dom — a glimpse of the New Heaven and New Earth grounded in peace, imagination, and hope.”
We invite you to join our exhibition opening on December 4th as we gather as a community to engage in dialogue and work together to promote and create peace.
