David Palmer, PhD

David Palmer holds a bachelor’s degree in Theory and Composition from Ball State University, a master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy from West Chester University, and a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music. He was on the Pfeiffer University music faculty from 1999 to 2012 where he taught music theory, musicianship, piano, organ, bass guitar, jazz combo, history of rock, and world music courses; accompanied choirs and various student, faculty, and guest soloists; and played organ for occasional chapel services and concerts. In 2012, David undertook a year of piano teaching at Davidson College. Also in 2012, David began a succession of music minister positions, serving first at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Davidson, NC. David Palmer has taught piano in Nevada, Michigan, Bolivia, Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Indiana. Since moving to the DMV in 2020, he has worked as music minster at the Church of the Covenant in Arlington and at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Annandale and as interim music minster at Christ Episcopal Church, Capitol Hill; taught piano to children; and done volunteer work. He is active in the DMV music scene as a jazz and rock musician. David also has written several articles for The Living Church and released 24 albums of his compositions, the latest being Plan B. He is teaching a Protest Music course for Wesley Seminary this summer for the third time.
