My objective as a photographer is to create a level of intimacy by bringing my subjects as close as possible to the viewer. The two photographs in this exhibit are part of a larger body of work and are an example of this.

Being raised Catholic, and as a former Franciscan Seminarian, I have always been drawn to religious icons.  As a young altar boy, seeing images of Jesus hanging on the cross and witnessing the power that the priest seemed to have during the eucharistic service, left me in awe.  The desire to experience what I saw in these men of the cloth led me to briefly enter the Seminary.  To this day, I am fascinated by the devotion that people express to this iconic figure.

My objective was to try and capture the feelings experienced and the projections so often placed upon objects of worship.  I spent days hunting for Jesus in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in April, 2006.  San Miguel is a beautiful, intact colonial mountain village 3-½ hours northwest of Mexico City.  As in all of Mexico, Jesus is everywhere.  His place in Mexican society is as firmly established as are the qualities that he represents.

These photographs were taken with a Canon EOS 20D SLR, using a Sigma 28-70 lens.  They are printed using Custom Digital Printing with a Wet Chemical Process on True Silver Based Archival Paper.
