As a Christian artist, I have found a new direction to share the good news through these paintings. These paintings are biblical impressions using alternative mark-making in conjunction with the landscape genre.  The landscape is representative of a world that is “fallen” due to our sinful nature conveyed through splattering, sanding and burning of the surface.  Jesus Christ is juxtaposed as the redeemer of this scarred world that is littered with smokestacks, telephone poles, water-towers and Boeing aircraft.  Text and symbols are used as signifiers of His work on the cross.  In the painting “Saving the Slave to Sin”, the number three is used to indicate the day of His resurrection and His defeat of death.  Lastly, it represents the holy trinity and the gift of the Holy Spirit.  With all my work, my hope is to affectively translate scripture without being too allegorical and then relate its necessity to contemporary life.
