To me, the “Sacred” is the Creative Force of the Universe. That is why I believe it is of utmost importance for artists of all genres to develop a personal relationship with that force which most people call God. When I am painting I am in action and in a sense this brings me to the point that God is much more than a being for God is also an amazing verb, a being always creating art in the form of nature, unconditional love, and healing. So much of the ancient writings on God, especially those of the early Christians, are now lost to us. Therefore, I see artists as the new movers and shakers of the Holy Spirit, but only those artists who commit there entire life force and energy into building a relationship with God as defined in Julia Cameron’s book “The Artists Way”
The Sacred is any action, historical event, ritual, object (natural or human made), thought, work of art, place, or person/being which reflects God’s creativity. Moreover, I define God as the Immortal Being of Infinite Love, Light, Knowledge, Compassion and Forgiveness who IS, WAS, and ALWAYS WILL BE. He/She/Androgyny is a Timeless . . . Act of Positive and Creative Energy. To conclude, This Divine Presence is so much more than the Judeo/Christian/Islamic parental power of dogma, laws, anger, and vengeance. This Being is beyond all organized religions and systems of human ritual and magic. This Being is the infinite Is . . . the Resurrected Liberator of “I-Am-Consciousness-Made-Human” and called the Christ. Yes, the “Sacred” is anything that mirrors God, who is both Father and Mother to us, Who is Creator, Liberator, and Sustainer (Parent, Son, and Holy Ghost/Sophia) . . . the Divine Quantum Physics of Eternal Possibilities . . . our evolutionary destiny . . . reflection in the mirror of our hearts and collective heart.
The Artist’s Career Statement as a Liturgical Artist
As a “Liturgical Artist”, my life is committed to listening to the universe’s sacred voices; and then, becoming a vehicle through which messages from the Divine Creative Force are translated into visual format. My works include: painted Christian icons, digitally enhanced photographs of religious-centric items and events; mixed-media, conceptual works (many on canvas like the ones submitted for jurying into this exhibit); visual “prayer-tools”, such as “The Stations of the Cross”; and, installations (construction of sacred indoor and outdoor environments). My works are designed primarily as “meditation-pieces”, and are appropriate for houses of worship, homes, offices, and retreat centers.
I see a difference between the “sacred” and the “profane”; however, I believe that the Light contains a Divine “shadow-side”. I envision an eventual combination of both science and spirituality as we evolve, with art being the “Liberating Mechanism” (both the key and the door) that brings about our ability to see the visible and invisible worlds . . . the possible and what is now thought to be “the impossible”. “Knock; and, it shall be opened to you.”
