Installation view of entry to "The Seminary Celebrates"The Seminary Celebrates:
Recent Works by Students, Staff and Faculty

March 29 - May 14, 2004

It has been nearly six years since the last exhibition featuring works of students, staff and faculty of the Seminary. In the intervening years, we have showcased works by past and current Artists-in-Residence, as well as MTS graduates. Meanwhile, participation in the visual arts has become such an accepted part of our life together that sometimes it is difficult to find a corner of the studio in which to work.

Installation view of "Daily Prayer" a mixed media work by Billie AbrahamVisual art is always a negotiation between the artist’s original vision and the uncompromising reality of physical stuff. This celebration of the rich imagination, growing skill, and deep, theological reflection to be found in the Seminary community includes thirty-five works by twenty-five different individuals in the Gallery, and twelve additional works by emerita faculty member Carroll Saussy, in the Board Room. Both beginning and experienced artists have found ways to embody their ideas in stained glass, oils, watercolor, encaustic, fabric, wood, and other media. We are invited to find meaning and beauty in the work of their hands, the evidence of their journey.
